  • Indie Movie Mastery Podcast with Joanna Ke

The Indie Movie Mastery Podcast is formatted to walk through the 5 phases of producing a project – development, funding, production, distribution and marketing. I ask my guests what challenges they’ve had in those 5 areas and how they overcame those challenges in the hopes of giving you insight into the producing process as well as some ideas on how you might make your movie dreams into real-life realities.

Joanna Ke is impressive. As an actor, she wanted to play the lead in an action movie. Instead of waiting for an opportunity for that to happen, she took matters into her own hands and made a short where she starred as a badass warrior. Not only did she accomplish her goal, the film has been winning award after award after award on the film festival circuit validating that she is not only a fantastic actress, but a pretty incredible producer.

Her “day job” is that of a professional script reader for major studios with a focus on ensuring that the female characters in the scripts she reads are well rounded and true-to-life. Her insight and perspective is so interesting and helpful to anyone looking to make a well-rounded, studio-level film. Her episode is not to be missed.

Check it out below and as always, if you find value, please share.

I ask my guests what challenges they’ve had in those 5 areas and how they overcame those challenges in the hopes of giving you insight into the producing process as well as some ideas on how you might make your movie dreams into real-life realities.

Leah Cevoli is a multi-talented individual. She has successfully navigated the world of acting, voiceover, live events and she’s a crowd-funding expert. But, I think the thing that made me really stand up and take notice of Leah when I first met her was her openness and willingness to share her experience and knowledge. And, of course, her smile and sense of humor. She’s just a joy.

In this episode, Leah shares some serious insight, especially in the funding arena. She’s a plethora of knowledge and you won’t want to miss her episode, seriously.

I ask my guests what challenges they’ve had in those 5 areas and how they overcame those challenges in the hopes of giving you insight into the producing process as well as some ideas on how you might make your movie dreams into real-life realities.

As it sometimes goes during production, someone had to cancel at the last minute and as they say “the show must go on.” So, I “interviewed” myself 😉 I didn’t do the two sided interview, but I did reveal some of my biggest challenges and how I overcame them in each of the 5 areas of producing.

So, check it out below and I’ve decided to do a “Just Jenna” episode once a month where I answer your questions so please send those to indiemoviemastery@gmail.com

Malia Miglino has done something I wish all actors would do and took her acting career into her own hands. With “Macabre Mondays,” (a docu-series) Malia puts herself in front of the camera showcasing her amazing presence as she talks about something she is passionate about – all things Macabre.

In this episode, she talks openly about what it’s like to go from in front of the camera to behind it as a one-woman team on “Macabre Mondays” as well as what it was like to produce her first feature film. This woman is a force and she is also so open, honest, funny and relatable. If you’re an actor and you’ve ever dreamed of making your own project, you won’t want to miss this episode.
